Agenda Item Summary: As a part of the coordinated effort to manage the high school project, regular meetings are conducted to address the range of issues including but not limited to educational programming, site investigation and evaluation, environmental planning, financial modeling and schedule. Members from ACPS staff, the project team of consultants and City of Alexandria’s Planning and Zoning, Recreation Parks and Cultural Activities, and Transportation and Environmental Services departments all participate regularly in these progress meetings. This brief includes minutes from several meetings. It is anticipated that Board briefs, including progress meeting minutes, will be forwarded weekly going forward.
Background: The High School Project began in the summer of 2018 and has progressed steadily throughout the past year. On January 24, 2019, the School Board voted to continue high school project work with a focus on several priorities and a commitment to a multi-option evaluation process. This work has since developed into an expanded project team including additional consultant support and the establishment of an Educational Design Team. This brief includes meeting minutes from the High School Project progress meetings of the full project team conducted on June 20, June 24, and July 1, 2019.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends the School Board review this and subsequent briefs that transmit meeting minutes on a regular basis as a means to stay current with project progress. The project team will respond to and accommodate inquiries from the Board on an as needed basis.
