Agenda Item Summary: ACPS School Nutrition Program is scheduled for an onsite review on the following dates, March 19-22, 2019. The (3) schools that have been identified by the Virginia Department of Education officials to participate in the federal review are George Washington Middle School, Cora Kelly Elementary and George Mason Elementary.
Background: In accordance with provisions of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, all entities participating in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program must be reviewed by the state agency once every three years. The purpose of the review is to ensure compliance with federal program requirements. This would include the free and reduced meal applications processes and procedures, access to meals, the regulatory guidelines that govern these meals, menu compliance and overall nutrition integrity of the meals.
Recommendation: The superintendent recommends that the School Board review the information provided in the brief.
